Syllabus
This year will be very fun and exciting as we dive into learning the Spanish language and culture! We will follow the standards for foreign language, which include communication, culture, connections, comparisons, and community. Students will explore Spanish through activities that enforce the importance of organization and proactive study habits in order to gain the necessary skills to succeed in middle school and beyond.
As your teacher, I will guide you to become a knowledgeable citizen and student at Edgewood Middle School. You will be required to think, read, discuss, write and work with other students in the class. Small group work, cooperative learning, and group discussions will become a norm in this classroom, and you will be required to participate.

Grade Breakdown
Grades will be categorized according to the following breakdown:
Homework Student Skill – 3%
Homework Completion – 7%
Menu/Projects – 20%
Tests/Quizzes – 50%
Verbal/Participation- 20%
Homework Policy
Daily assignments are due at the beginning of class on the next day that class is in session. Students with two or more late daily assignments per quarter in any one class are assigned to the Academic Lunch Program until the assignment is completed.
Long-term assignments (projects and menu items) are due at the beginning of class on the identified due date. Students that have not completed a long-term assignment are assigned to the Academic Lunch Program until the assignment is completed.
Retake Policy
Students will be allowed to retake a test/quiz no matter what their grade is. If you get a 95% on an assessment and are not satisfied, you can retake it. You must complete a retake form, which requires you to complete two activities and get a parent signature. (The activities you complete CANNOT be the same as what you did for a menu item for that chapter!!) Your original score and your retake score will be averaged. Retakes must be completed before the next assessment.
There are no retakes on homework assignments.
Technology
There is a class website- please familiarize yourself with the information. There are many benefits to using technology. Some of the major benefits are student ownership of their work, student collaboration and communication, and development of higher order thinking skills. You will be doing work online at the eStudio website, and submitting it to me by using your username and password. I trust that each of you will do your own work. You are allowed to look up vocabulary words, however, you cannot use a translator. You must use a dictionary. You may not use any grammar concepts outside of what we have learned in class.

Academic Honesty
Your character is far more important than a grade.
If you are found to be cheating in any way you will be required to complete an alternative form of assessment.
I promise to assist you with anything you need and make your Spanish experience successful! I am available to work with students each morning at 7:20 before school. I am available after school for students on an appointment basis. Please allow at least a day's notice if you would like to stay after school for help. The best way to get in touch with me is through e-mail- please e-mail me at anytime with anything! I look forward to working with each of you this year!
